Our 2008-2009 season included a collaboration with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Jeremy Koch and Denene Mulay Koch, and the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus in a pops concert featuring selections from Broadway shows such as “South Pacific”, “Big”, “The Music Man”, and “Hairspray”, a Christmas concert entitled “Christmas at Nazareth” at Holy Family Chapel at Nazareth, a collaboration with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra in a performance of “Video Games Live” (described as “an immersive event created by the game industry featuring the best game music performed by top orchestras and choirs combined with synchronized lighting, video, live action and audience interactivity… the first and most successful video game concert tour in the world!”), a concert entitled “Cathedral Classics” recognizing the contributions to choral music of Franz Josef Haydn (1732-1809), on the 200th anniversary of his death, and Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847), on the 200th anniversary of his birth (including Haydn’s “Missa In Tempore Belli” (“Mass In Time of War”) (a.k.a. “Paukenmesse” (“Kettledrum Mass”)) and Mendelssohn’s “Die Deutsche Liturgie” (“The German Liturgy”)), as well as a concert of solos, ensembles, and choruses featuring selections from Broadway shows of 1959, such as “Gypsy”, “The Most Happy Fella”, “The Music Man”, “My Fair Lady”, “Once Upon A Mattress”, “The Sound of Music”, and “West Side Story” (as the kickoff of the 2008 “Concerts In The Park” summer concert series presented by the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo and the City of Kalamazoo, and sponsored by the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation).
